Who is Richard Koolman?

His favorite quote might give you a clue. Yes, he’s a die-hard Star Wars fan, and a bit of a nerd. You definitely don’t want to hire him as a handyman. Though he excels at finance and technology. Which means he:

builds his own computer, as a hobby
creates complex spreadsheets, like no other
coded this website from scratch, just for kicks

Richard loves to solve complex problems and to help/coach people. This is probably the reason why he started his own business at the age of 30.

Nowadays it’s generally accepted to have a side hustle. Though back in the day, it was kind of frowned upon.

Career

In 1999, Richard started his professional career at an audit firm. It didn’t take very long before he got sacked. Though the next job he landed was an instant success.

During his 6 years at this logistics company, he climbed the ranks to business controller. Sadly, they relocated their offices, tripling Richard’s daily commute.

He faced a difficult decision, but decided to roll the dice. At this point he was unemployed and had a mortgage to pay. Luckily it all worked out, as he landed a new job at the start of 2006.

Entrepreneurial Journey

In his late twenties, Richard had become a wiz at using spreadsheets. He knew he had to do something with this knowledge. But It wasn’t until 2009, that he actually pulled the trigger. He started an educational business selling online courses.

Back then, online course platforms like Teachable or Thinktific didn’t exist. That's why he outsourced it to a developer, and focussed on the “important stuff”. Creating a logo, ordering stationery and business cards.

Finally, after many hours of hard work and spending thousands, he’d done it. He launched his first ever online course.

Personal Life

Richard lives together with the love of his life, his wife Yvette. They’re raising two wonderful daughters in a small village called Puttershoek, which is located in the Netherlands.

In his free time, he’s plotting evil schemes. Uhm, I mean he’s looking to find opportunities that can make the world a better place. As you’ve noticed by now, Richard is a funny guy who doesn’t take himself too seriously. Though he can get a bit grumpy at times, it seems like he's human afterall.

He enjoys spending time with friends and family. Though to blow off some steam, he puts on his headset and plays video games. Games like Factorio, Battlefield, Clash Royale, Call of Duty and Supreme Commander. In short: He loves strategy and fps games.

Personal note:
It felt kind of strange writing all this stuff about myself, especially in the third person.
Though before publishing, people close to me have reviewed and confirmed it’s all true.
